Another Sarnoff Layoff

26 Oct

It’s a Friday morning I am sitting at my desk at work looking out the window at all the trees changing colors. It is really quite lovely, so why am I so down in the dumps?

Perhaps your company has had a layoff too? We did, last week. Eighty seven people were let go, over ten percent of our workforce. A palpable gloom has settled over the company. yeah we have had layoffs before but for some reason this one seems worse than all the others put together.

Perhaps it was the talk that the CEO gave after the layoff: the same talk he has given several times before only with some different numbers.

Maybe it is the rumors of executives spending extraordinary amounts of money on unnecessary things. Gee, that never happens!

Or perhaps the people who needed badly to get sacked (read Dilbert, you’ll understand) didn’t get sacked.

In other words, same shit, different day.

It’s taken the wind out of me, and most of the rest of the folks here too. And a phrase keeps running thru my head, “rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.”
