This is what I use for a home page (I never much liked the bookmarks menu).
This page is actually the genesis of how I started hacking HTML. I just opened up the (Netscape 3.x) bookmarks file in a text editor and started deleting things till I got something compact and useful.
Still possible today if you export your bookmarks as HTML.
The text box at the top (below) is a Google search box.
